Peter Howard
Peter Hollis Howard, of Stellarton, passed away quietly on July 19, 2011 at the age of 61 years, from ALS.
Born February 19, 1950 in Noranda, Quebec, he was the eldest son of the late Leslie Gordon “Hank” Howard and Rose Margaret (McGuire) Howard.
Pete was employed in many different fields of work, always a loyal, hardworking employee who went that extra mile to make sure his assigned tasks were completed properly. A proud member of the Pictou County Antique Car Club, Pete could be seen driving his “Baby”; 1979 Malibu, “O’Malley” at many rallies and in many parades. Peter had a heart of gold and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Peter struggled with an alcohol addiction early in his adult life. He dealt with the issue through Alcoholic’s Anonymous, and would have celebrated 30 years of sobriety in August 2011. Peter treasured his many supportive relationships, especially his close friends Arnold, Jerry and Bubba. In November 2009, Peter was diagnosed with ALS, and had to stop working. With all that life threw at him, Pete remained calm, quiet and dignified to the end.
Surviving Peter are his wife Donna (Kirk), his sister Jan (Bert) Griffon of Dartmouth, NS; brothers Eric (Debbie) and Steve (Sue) of St. Albert, Alberta, many nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. Memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the ALS Society or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
