EGERTON – Esther Mary (Maillet) Perry, 96, Egerton, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 in Valley View Villa, Riverton.
Born in Leoville, P.E.I., she was a daughter of the late Emanual and Angeline (Gaudet) Maillet and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Shortly after her marriage in 1938, she and her husband, Henry, moved to Nova Scotia where they raised their family and lived the rest of their lives in several communities but kept alive their P.E.I. roots. In her nineties, Esther continued to make preserves, sew and enjoy playing cards. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Egerton and life-time member of St. Ann’s C.W.L., Thorburn.
Surviving are daughters, Barbara (Mike) Ryan, Halifax; Estelle (John) O’Leary, Hammonds Plains; Amelia (Bob) MacIvor, Merigomish; Angela (Phillip) Steeves, Windsor Junction; Adele Perry, Edmonton, Alta.; sons, John (Sharon) and Earl (Judy), Egerton; special nephew, Ronald Myers, Pleasant View, P.E.I.; numerous grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry; son, Maurice; grand-daughter, Michelle Ryan; great-grand-daughter, Molly MacIvor; sisters, Bernice, Eva and Emile; brothers, Emile and Alyre.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Thorburn with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Egerton.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Esther’s memory to the St. Andrew’s Cemetery Fund.
