Surrounded by her loving family Mary Adeline MacDonald RN, passed away Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Adeline’s passing was with peace, dignity and prayer, just as she lived.
Born in River Ryan, the second eldest child of the late Matthew and Catherine (Pembroke) Hawley.
After graduating nursing school in New Waterford, she married the man she deeply loved Hugh A. MacDonald, the marriage was blessed which led to a loving fulfilling life.
Adeline is survived by her loving children, daughters, Catherine, Mass., Judith and her husband, Robert O’Mara, New Hampshire, and Lillian, Mass.; sons, Michael and his wife Lorna, Sydney, Hugh and Joseph Mass.; sister Anna Hussey, London, Ont.; loving sister-in-law, Genevieve (Michael) O’Brien, New Waterford; brother-in-law Andrew Grieve, Mass. Adeline will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Melissa (Scott), David (Laurie), Tommy, Peter, Ryan, Caitlin, Aaron, Erin, Ryan, Alicia, Christopher and Stephen; three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Morgan and Bretton. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and many great friends.
Besides her parents, Adeline was predeceased by her loving husband, Hugh A. MacDonald, sons, Pius and Stephen, brothers, Rev. Pius Hawley, Patrick, Jimmy and Bernie, sisters, Winnie Russell and Kathleen Grieve.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A funeral Mass to celebrating Adeline’s life will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25 in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with Fr. Doug Mac Donald officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. A reception will be held following in the Knights of Columbus Hall, 3226 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, and all are welcomed to attend.
