The death occurred peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, of Harry P. van der Velden of Summerside, and formerly of Shamrock, P.E.I., in his 81st year. Harry was born on Oct. 28, 1928, in Veghel, Holland, to his late parents, Antonius and Maria van der Velden. Beloved husband of Johanna M. (nee Vissers) van der Velden and loving father of Mary (Dale) Omilusik of Acme, Alta., Tony (Virginia) of Shamrock, P.E.I., John (Sandra) of Fort McMurray, Alta., Frank (Marcella) of East Chestermere Alta., Rita (Reg) Kelly of Okotoks, Alta., Paul (Rhonda) of Summerside, P.E.I., Annette (Vance) Griffin of Shamrock, P.E.I., Andre (Anna) of Riverview, N.B., and Edward (Michelle) of Shamrock, P.E.I. Also lovingly remembered by his 20 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Survived by his brothers and sisters, Jan (Sophia) of Perth, Australia, Nellie (Wim) Vandelst of Perth, Australia, Thea (Rein) Verrydt of Whitby, Ont., Berthus (Mien) of Maria Heide, Holland, Jo (Mary) of Maria Heide, Holland, Ans (Ad) Brands of Oss, Holland, Gijs (Riek) of Veghel, Holland and Riet (Cor) Verstegen of Uden, Holland. Besides his parents, Harry was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Piet (Martina) van der Velden. Resting at East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside, until Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, then to St. Paul’s Church, Summerside, for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in the church cemetery. Visiting hours on Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.. Memorial donations in Harry’s memory to the St. Paul’s Cemetery Fund would be greatly appreciated.
