GIBSON, Edmond Andrew “Andy” — 83, of Newport Station, Hants County, Nova Scotia, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on June 7, 1928, in Windsor, Hants County, NS, he was a son of the late George and Gladys (Bentley) Gibson. He was employed for 25 years at the Fundy Gypsum Company. During his career and after his retirement, he served as secretary/treasurer of the Nova Scotia Quarry Workers Union Hall. Andy was an avid sports fan and was elated to hear that the Boston Bruins, his favourite hockey team, recently won the Stanley Cup. He was the family historian and a meticulous record keeper. He could be counted on to recall any family history, including birth dates and events. He spent many weekends at the family camp (Loonie Lodge) on Five Mile Lake with his buddy Hawkeye and his faithful dog, Jup. Andy is survived by his wife, Joan (nee Mosher); children, Carol (Robert) Smith, Bridgewater/CherryHill; Vernon (Joan Burgess), St. Croix; Garnet (Debbie), Summerside, Prince Edward Island; Andrea (Gary) Ettinger, Hubbards; George, Edmonton, Alberta; David (Nancy), Three Mile Plains; and Barbara (Rod) Chung, Wasaga Beach, Ontario; 12 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy King, Walton. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Gladys (Bentley) Gibson; brothers, Joseph and James; and sisters, Margaret Rose “Rosie” Spence and Barbara Greeno. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. There was no visitation by request. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in the Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. The Rev. Bill Gibson officiated. A reception followed at the Three Mile Plains Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Andy, were requested to be made to the Hants Community Hospital, the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and staff of Unit 200 at the Hants Community Hospital for the excellent care provided to their dad during this difficult time.
