CATHERINE LORING

Born In: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Passed in: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

It is with great sadness that the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren announce the passing of their wonderful mother, and Nan, Catherine Margaret Loring on September 20, 2009 at Victoria Manor, Amherst.
Born in Fredericton on February 15, 1913 she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Laura (Feeney) Cain.
She graduated from UNB with a B.Sc. in 1933. While working in Bermuda during WWII she met and later married Ft. Lt. Charles Willis Loring. After the war she settled in Maccan, NS and raised a family of four children.
Kay had a very full life. She managed gift shops at the NS/NB border and Aulac for several years in the 60's and 70's. She especially looked forward to spending as many months as possible each year at her cottage at Oxley's Beach surrounded by her ten grandchildren.
She had a special relationship with each of her children and grandchildren and they could always count on "Nan" to set an example of dignity, courage, support, strong will and humour in everything she did. She was also blessed with nine great grandchildren.
For the past two years Kay resided at Victoria Manor where she received exceptional care from the staff for which the family will always be grateful.
We the family and the people she touched will always remember her for her kind and gentle spirit.
As said by her granddaughter Julie, "Nan when I grow older I wish I could have the charisma and graciousness that you so easily carried".
Kay is survived by three daughters Mary Lea (Jim) Ripley of Amherst, Kathy (Larry) Griffiths of Riverview, NB and Jill (Keith) Ripley of Maccan, NS, one son Joe (Irene) of Canmore, AB, ten grandchildren Mark (Susan) Ripley, Lori (David) Pugsley, Jennifer (Ivo) Beljo, Sue (Shannon) Lamb, Jason (Carrie) Griffiths, Angela Ripley, Paul Loring, Michael (Ursula) Ripley, Cheryl (Rob) Biturajac and Julie (Andre) Griffiths; nine great grandchildren, Dario, Kaja and Maksim Beljo, Logan and Mya Pugsley, Gary and Catherine Griffiths, Rylin Lamb and Adrian Biturajac, sister in law Pat Loring of Saint John, NB and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Willis, brother Gerald (Angela) Cain and sisters Beatrice Cain, Rita (George) Ward and Nora (Ray) Dolan.
Cremation has taken place.
Her family will receive visitors on Thursday, September 24, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906)
