With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gordon H. MacKeigan, 79, on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Florence, Gordie was the son of the late Murdock and Gertrude (Archer) MacKeigan. He was a member of Wilson United Church, Florence.
Gordie was a well-known mail driver on the Cape Breton North route. Later he ran the Bras d’Or Esso for 10 years and the Main Street, Sydney Mines Esso for 10 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Gloria ‘Bibsy’ (MacKenzie) MacKeigan; his son, Wylie (Kathe), Saint John, NB and his daughter, Alanna (Neville) Page, Lower Sackville, NS. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kristyn, Keigan and Callum Page, James and Kenzie MacKeigan; brothers, David (Ellen), Florence, Warren (Patricia), Balls Creek; sister, Sandra (Elmer) Roper, Sydney Mines and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Gordon H. MacKeigan will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Monday at 2 p.m. in Wilson United Church, Florence, with Norma Mills, D.L.M. and Rev. Richie Robinson officiating. The burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
Donations in Gordie’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or to Wilson United Church, Florence.
