It is with sadness that the family announce the death of Mary ‘Thelma’ (Rasmussen) Blinkhorn on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Florence, Thelma was the daughter of the late Simon and Sarah (Jessome) Rasmussen. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to her family. Thelma was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Shelburne County Women’s Liberal Association. She was an avid bingo player and truly enjoyed the Tuesday evening card games at the Sandy Point Community Hall.
She is survived by sons, Wayne (Cheryll), Blaine (Anne), Shane (Wendy), all of Sandy Point and Tremaine (Shelly), Goose Lake; grandchildren, whom she treasured, Lauren, Chalmers (Tracey), Matthew, Darius, Daniel, Benjamin, Gabrielle; great grandson Brandon; sisters, Anne Glidden, Washington, USA, Gennie Mann, Eastern Passage, Theresa Bandfield, Ingonish, Lottie (Phil) Walsh, Sylvia (Charles) Porter, both of Florence; brothers, Louis Rasmussen, Ontario; Harold (Theresa) Rasmussen, Florence, Stephen (Mary) Rasmussen, Ingonish Beach; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence ‘Blinky’; sisters, Mary Sampson and Viola Jessome; brothers, Simon, Percy, and Joseph Rasmussen.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 58 Bulkley St., Shelburne. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr. Pat O’Meara officiating. Thelma will be laid to rest in the St. Thomas Catholic Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, tahe family requests donations be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Thomas Catholic Church or to a charity of choice.
