NEW GLASGOW - Thomas Arthur MacKay, 66, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Tom and Laura (Samson) MacKay.
Tom was a long time employee of The Evening News retiring after 41 years of service. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage at Lochaber Lake kayaking, woodworking, and especially spending time with his family. He especially liked spending time with his granddaughters who called him ‘GaGa’, and his grandsons who called him ‘Grampie’.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Geraldine (Weldon); daughter Patricia (Jim) Crocket, Stellarton; son, Craig (Gerri-Lynn), New Glasgow; grandchildren, Laura and Jamie Crocket, Stellarton; Jakob and Joshua MacKay, New Glasgow; brother, Bobby (Wendy); niece, Ashley (Marshall) Potter; nephew, Aaron, all of Stellarton.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton, with Father Peter MacDonald and Father Donald Boudreau officiating. A reception will follow in the Sister Catherine Steele Center. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
