It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gertrude Camilla Stack, age 89, formerly of Reserve Mines and a resident of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay. Gertie passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the manor.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Helen (Madore) MacCormack. Prior to becoming a resident of Seaview Manor, she was a member of St. Joseph’s parish in Reserve Mines and was active in the CWL.
Gertie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She will be sadly missed by her loving children, Michael (Barbara Ryan), Mississauga, ON, Barbara (Neil MacDonald), Sydney and Joan (Gerry Winters), Markham, ON. She leaves behind five cherished grandchildren, Sean, Catherine, Matthew, Bradley and Bryan and two great-grandchildren, Miranda and Meghan. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was a very caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her family meant the world to her. She will be missed by all.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Stack, Reserve Mines and an infant son; brothers, Stephen, Joseph, Elmer, Louis and Edmund and sisters, Margaret, Helen, Eileen and Jane.
Visitation for Gertie will be held Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Andrew Gillies officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Gertie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of choice.
