John Feser
Born In: Offenbach, Germany
FESER – John (Hans Joachim) Feser was born in Offenbach, Germany, August 25, 1953, and died in Nanaimo, BC, on May 21, 2011. He was the second of five children born to Gisela (Nagel) Feser and Edward Feser, immigrating with his parents while an infant. The Feser family lived in Main Centre and Herbert, SK, while John was young. He graduated from Herbert High School and worked in sheet metal construction until he became a firefighter with the Calgary Fire Department in 1978. John retired as a Captain with the Department in 2008 with 30 years of service. John married Loreen Dawn Nybo in Swift Current at St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church in 1972. They were married for 36 years living in Calgary, Water Valley and Cochrane, AB. John and Lory had children: Kathrine Schock (Feser). They were active in many community activities and loved to travel – their favourite trips included Hawaii, England and Germany. John enjoyed camping and he spent many of his days off on his SeaDoo and houseboat on the Ghost Lake, often rescuing stranded boaters and swimmers – even while off-duty. John had a quick smile, a good sense of humour, was an excellent cook, handyman and dedicated firefighter. John moved to Gabriola Island in British Columbia following retirement and married Ann Chappell in 2009. John Feser is survived by wife Ann; his daughter Kathrine Schock (Feser); his former wife and mother of his children, Loreen (Nybo) Feser; his siblings Peter Feser, Maria Dueck, Brigitte Broten and Helga Funke; as well as extended family. John, you left us too soon. We love you and miss you. A memorial will be held for John Feser to honour the day of his birth on August 25, 2011, in St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church in Swift Current, SK, at 4PM.
