ATKINSON, Hubert Courtney “Hoodah”, 89, of South Side, Shelburne County passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011. Born on February 6, 1922 in South Side, he was the son of the late George and Pearl (Nickerson) Atkinson. He enjoyed duck hunting, talking on the phone, watching the Blue Jays games and carving his little buoys. Hubert was also in the Merchant Navy in his younger years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 148, Clark’s Harbour. He is survived by his wife, Laura (Smith) Atkinson, South Side; sons, Courtney (Wanda), Little Anse, Bruce (Shelly), North East Point, Ernest (Rose), Bear Point and Bobby, PEI; daughters, Ruby, South Side, Irene, Shelburne, Bonita (Andrew), Doctors Cove, Georgia (Floyd), SK, Louise (Carl) North East Point, Patricia (Tommy), South Side, Diane, Liverpool and Linda, ON; and many grandchildren and great grand children. Aside from his parents he was predeceased by sons, Howard, in infancy, Leroy; daughter, Crystal; and sister Bertha Smith, Yarmouth. The funeral service was held on Thursday, July 21 from the South Side United Baptist Church, South Side, Rev. Shaun Hatfield officiating. Interment to follow in White Lily Cemetery, South Side.
