Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: September 27th, 2009

It is with great sadness that our family announces the death of our loving mother, grand and great-grandmother, mother-in-law and friend. Mom passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at the MacGillivary Guest Home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Ingonish to the late James and Sarah (Curtis) Donovan on Nov. 19, 1913, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mom was a devoted member of St. Theresa’s parish and a lifetime member of St. Theresa’s CWL. Our mom was a wonderful caring person who was always there for her family and friends. She was an at-home mom who loved to bake and knit. She was well-known for her fudge and pork-pies. Though she raised nine children she still had time to take courses in carpentry, upholstery and ceramics where she was able to gift each of her children with a lasting memory of her.
Mom will be forever missed by her children, Marie (Calvin) Rafuse, Lynn (Mike) Tynski and Anne (Kevin) MacNeil, all of Sydney, Barbara (Joe) Callaghan, P.E.I., Donna (Bob) Burgess, Ontario, Darlene (Mike) Mullowney, Newfoundland, Aubrey (Maria), New Brunswick, Jimmy (Diane) and Andy (Shirley), both of Sydney.
Nannie Cookie as she was better known by her 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Bernard, in 2002, her grandson, Paul, brothers, John, Sidney, Harry, Robert, Sanford, Herbert and her sisters, Mayme and Dora.
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacNeil will be held Thursday, Oct. 1 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa’s Church Rev. James Oliver officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the MacGillivary Guest Home, the Canadian Diabetes Society or a charity of choice.
