It is with heavy hearts we announce that on Sunday July 31, 2011, Stuart Robson ‘Sonny’ Peters passed peacefully away surrounded by his family.
Born in Sydney in 1928, he was the son of the late Stuart and Mona Peters.
He was predeceased by his only sibling Raymond and his eldest son Billy.
Retired from Sydney Steel where he was employed as an electrician, Sonny was also regarded in the Junior as well as Maritime Major Hockey League where he enjoyed 23 years as both a referee and linesman and was referee-in-chief in most leagues he worked. A lifelong member of the Cedars Club, Sonny enjoyed spending time with friends talking about hockey and of course his beloved Yankees of which he was a diehard fan.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 60 years, Renie (nee Rutherford); three sons, Terry, Monty (Corrina) and Stuart; six daughters, CC (Bill), Mona (Bud), Erin, at home, Kathryn, Sondra and Raye (Malcie) as well as 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Sonny will be held Wednesday, Aug. 3 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, George Street, Sydney, form 4-6 p.m., with funeral service immediately following at 6 p.m. Burial at a later date.
