It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mary Stephina Campbell, 93, announce her passing on Sunday, July 31, 2011, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, after a short illness.
Born in Glace Bay, Sept. 22, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Dan E. and Effie Anne MacDonald.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a graduate of Mount Saint Bernard College in 1936 with a secretarial diploma. She and her husband Joseph (Dody) Campbell owned and operated Bades Bakeshops and Sally Ann Bakery in Glace Bay until their retirement in 1972, after which they moved to Grand Mira where they were very involved in their church and community affairs. They loved country living.
Mary had great faith and a great love of her God and her family.
She is survived by her son, Blair (Nancy) Campbell, Calgary, and their children, Michelle, Todd and Derek; daughter, Elaine (Vaughan) Chisholm, Antigonish, and their children, Sean, Wendy, Jason, Brian and Eric; son-in-law, Phil LeSauvage and his children, Mark and Cameron; and her 14 great-grandchildren. Also missed by Ann’s partner Paul Thompson.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph (Dody) Campbell, her daughter, Ann LeSauvage, and four brothers, Angus Norman, Dan A., Alex, and Fr. Mickey Malcolm, four sisters, Sr. Joseph Michael CSC (Catherine), Chris MacIntyre, Anne Driscoll and Tenie MacIntosh.
By request cremation has taken place. Visitations will be Wednesday, 7-9 p.m. in the C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish, and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, Grand Mira, Fr. Stanley MacDonald presiding. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
