It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gerty Hurley, 99, of Glace Bay. Gerty passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay.
Born in Newfoundland, Gerty was the daughter of the late Fred and Rose (Gillingham) Hurley.
She was a former resident of Kennedy Drive, Glace Bay, and for several years, Gerty was a resident of Victoria Haven Nursing Home. She was employed at a very early age and was a hard worker. She enjoyed watching television.
She will be fondly remembered and missed by close friends, Mildred Shepard, Mary Shepard, Ruth Kelloway, Raymond Shepard, Victoria Haven staff and residents.
Besides her parents, Gerty was predeceased by brothers and sisters.
In honouring Gerty’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held today (Tuesday, Aug. 2) at 11 a.m. in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating.
Donations in Gerty’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
