MACKENZIE, J. Donald “Don” - 81, of Pereau, Kings County, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Bass River on November 15, 1929, he was a son of the late James Douglas and Ruth Lenore (MacLaughlin) MacKenzie. He had formerly been employed with the Royal Bank and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He owned and operated Don MacKenzie’s Carpets and Furniture for a number of years. He was a member of the United Church of Canada and had served as an Elder for Trinity United Church, Canning. Don was a longtime member of Lions International and belonged to both the Berwick and District and Canning and District Lions Clubs. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville, a former member of the boards for both the C.N.I.B. and Kings County Housing Authority. He was currently active in the insurance industry, where he had been employed for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Mariann; two children, Sherry (David) MacKenzie-Jennison, Canaan, Kings County and Kirk (Bonnie), Eastern Passage; four step-children, Tom (Janet) Morton, Halls Harbour; David (Carol) Morton, Habitant; Stephen (Rita) Morton, Fort McMurray, Alberta and Carolyn (David) Morton-Busk, White’s Lake; many grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Robert “Bruce” MacKenzie. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service followed by a reception was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2011, Reverend Donald Rafuse officiating. Burial took place in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only by request.
