Passed away peacefully in his 90th year at the veterans wing of Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, on Sept. 24, 2009.
Martin served with the Royal Canadian Signal Corp in the Second World War participating in the Normandy landings and the liberation of Europe. Martin and his family moved to Pickering, Ont. in 1963, from his native Cape Breton. He was employed at the Bordens Company until his retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vera; children, Martin, Lionel, Raymond (Laura), Esther, Elaine (Robert), Michael (Penny), Jimmy (Donna) and Chris (Leanna); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Martin is also survived by his sister, Jean, Halifax.
A service was held at McEachnie Funeral Home in Pickering on Sept. 30, 2009, to celebrate Martin\'s life. A funeral will be held at a later date when he returns home to be buried in East Bay, Cape Breton.
