Thelma Frances Cavanagh

Cavanagh, Thelma Frances – 81, Truro, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, V.G. Site, Halifax, with her family by her side. Born in Stellarton and raised in Springville, she was a daughter of the late Abraham and Gertrude (Cook) Hennessey. Thelma was a member of the First United Church, Prince Street, Truro. She was former President of the Hillside Girls Club and a former member of the Trenton United Church where she was active in the choir and C.G.I.T. Thelma enjoyed rug hooking with the Colchester Heritage Rug Hookers. She loved to garden and eat the vegetables she had grown herself, especially tomatoes. Thelma was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Thelma is survived by her sons, Michael, Calgary, Daniel “Danny” (Shelley), Upper Onslow and Kenneth, East Mountain; five grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brother, John, Barr Head, AB; step-brother, Gerald Smith, N.B.; step-sister, Isabel Fields, Truro and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Charles “Donald” Cavanagh, Thelma was predeceased by sister, Bessie Pollock, brother, Lawrence, step-brother, Alfred Smith; brother-in-law, George Fields. The family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the Health Care Providers who supported and assisted Mom and our family over the past couple weeks. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7 from 1-2 p.m. with memorial service at 2 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, N.S., Rev. Roger Moore officiating with private family interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
