It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Helen Baxendale at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Florence, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Willena (King) LeBlanc.
Mom’s passing was with dignity, love and prayer, just as she lived her life. She was greatly respected for her compassion and her nursing abilities. Mom was known for her hospitality, generosity and willingness to lend a hand. She graduated from the Hamilton memorial Hospital Class of 1944 and worked her entire career at the Harbourview Hospital in Sydney Mines.
She was a member of the Sydney Mines Seniors & Pensioners Club, Golden K Club and contributed to the Northside Artists Association. She was well known for her creative abilities, including ceramics, smocking, sewing, oil painting and gardening. She was devoted to her church St. Pius X and contributed her talents by producing church banners, altar cloths and anything requested of her.
Mom will be forever missed by her children, Carol (Fred) Martell, Leitches Creek, Brenda (Lloyd) Pitts, Okotoks, Arnie at home, Gary (Caroline), Edmonton, Daryl (Brenda), Dalem Lake; sister Josephine (Cupie) Penney; brothers-in-law, Cyril Reashor, Florence, Louis Rasmussen, Ontario. She was a loving grandmother to Aaron, Cassandra, Londa, Sacha, Jesse, Dana and Molly and great-grandmother to Kyle and Isla. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold; brothers, Elmer, George, Claude; sisters, Irene, Edith ‘Edie’, Muriel, Mildred ‘Millie’ and Idella ‘Honey’.
Visitation for the late Helen Baxendale will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Thomas John officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
