Allan passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, on his 87th birthday, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Mill Pond, he was a son of John William and Margaret (MacLeod) Urquhart.
He was employed for 33 years in the coal industry, retiring from Prince Mine in 1985. He was a tireless worker and a devoted husband and family man.
Allan is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty (nee Campbell). Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Crystal, Angela and Johnathan and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his only son, Sidney, brother, Douglas and sister, Elizabeth Duffy.
Cremation has taken place. The memorial for Allan will take place Friday at 2 p.m. in Curry's Chapel, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating.
Donations in Allan’s memory may be made to the cancer society or charity of choice.
The family express gratitude to Dr. David Ley, the nurses at the Glace Bay Health Care Facility and the palliative care workers for their kindness and compassion.
