CURRIE (Fillmore), Hilda – 89, Truro, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 4, 2011, at Williams’ Country Home, Hilden. Born July 9, 1922, in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Marguerite (Dryden) Fillmore. Hilda was a member of First United Church, where she was a past president and member of Unit A, UCW. She was also a past member of IODE Ingonish Chapter, Zonta and Colchester Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Hilda was also a past president of Truro Ladies Curling Club and past charter member and first president of Truro Business Ladies Curling Club. She worked for 15 years as owner of Currie’s Children Shop and worked for over 25 years for Royal Bank, Truro. Hilda is survived by her son, Gregory (Blanche) Currie; daughter, Marilyn (Doug) Jordan; special niece, Janet (Dale) MacPhee, all of Truro; grandsons, Dustin (Kelly) Ferris, Bermuda; Donald Ferris, Truro; Andrea (Dana) Graham, Upper Stewiacke; Sandra (Jason) Koshman, Calgary, Alberta; step grandsons, Gary (Angel) Jordan, Barrie, Ontario; Russell (Ivana) Jordan, Hamilton, Ontario; 17 great grandchildren; one great great-grandson; one nephew; several nieces. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Norman Waldo Currie; son, Robert in infancy; sister, Cloe MacMurdo; brother, Gregory Fillmore. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Hilda’s family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, August 7, 2011, and where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, August 8, 2011, Reverend Roger Moore officiating. Reception will follow. Interment in Watson Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Hilda’s memory to Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation are welcomed.
