It is with deep regret that we the family announce the sudden passing of Margaret MacDonald on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at home.
Born in New Perlican, N.L., she was the daughter of the late George and Eliza (George) Smith.
Margaret was a member of Holy Redeemer parish and the Whitney Pier Pensioners Club. She lived life to the fullest, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She played cards, darts, Scrabble and loved to bowl. She ran in the Terry Fox Run since 1981.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Margaret is survived by her loving children, Lorraine Mombourquette, Sydney, Diane (Reg) Blunden, Dutch Brook, Carole (Doug) Spence, Sydney, George ‘Bud’ (Ethel) Sydney, Jim (Rose), Balls Creek, Melvin (Cindy), New Brunswick; daughters-in-law, Donelda and Delores; son-in-law, Danny Demelo. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; nine great great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James ‘Jim’, daughter, Charlotte DeMelo, son in infancy, John Dennis, sister, Beatrice Andrews, brother, Melvin Smith, three grandsons, Louis, Sean and Robert, and two great-grandchildren in infancy, James and Allysha.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Dan MacInnis officiating.
