It is with great sadness that our family announce the death of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and friend, Mary Catherine ‘Jean’ Hare, 94, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at the Northside Guest Home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Nordin, N.B., Sept. 4, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Rose Taylor, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mom was a devout member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, and her faith in God sustained her throughout her life. Our Mom was a wonderful caring person and was always there for her family and friends. Jean was an avid bingo player and was loved by all her bingo friends.
Mom will be forever missed by her children, Marilyn Ferguson (Ian Dalgarno), Halifax, Betty Hatcher (Hector MacEachern), Sydney River, Jim Hare, (Rosemary), St. John’s, N.L. Also survived by son-in-law, Jack Hatcher. Nanny will also be sadly missed and never forgotten by her 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
Mom was predeceased by her soul mate, Garfield (Gab) Hare, her daughter, Joan MacLellan, her two sons-in-law, Jack MacLellan and Ronald Ferguson, her two sisters, Doris Walsh and Lexie Morrisey, and eight brothers, Harry, Lawrence, Vincent, James, Raymond, Robert, George and Bud.
Visitation for Jean will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Funeral Mass to be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
