MT. WILLIAM - Allan Joseph Whytewood, age 65, Mt. William, Pictou County, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital with his family at his side.
Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Stanley and Mary (Trott) Whytewood.
Allan served in the Canadian Military for 22 years retiring in 1981. After his military career, he worked as a superintendent for the School Board until retirement due to ill health. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman with his best friend "Hay Boy". His home and family were most dear to him, especially enjoying his grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 43 years, Sharon (Reim); daughter, Sherry Arkens, Green Hill; son, James (Lisa), Miramichi, NB; son-in-law, Allan Arkens; grandchildren, Christopher and Jeffrey Arkens and Hanna Whytewood. He is also survived by brothers, Harold (Ann), Stellarton, Sam (Alice), New Glasgow; John, Hamilton, Ont.; sisters, Ruby (Ron) Servos, Stellarton; Eleanor Nicholson, Stellarton; Linda Hatfield, New Glasgow; Marsha (Paul) Lisk, Kingston, Ont.; Margie (Roger) Doucet, Dartmouth; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynn StAmand, Thunder Bay, Ont.; Fran (Charlie) Fraser, Central West River; Wenda (Larry) Hay, Mt. William; Butch (Liz) Reim, Atlanta.
He was predeceased by brother, Stan, and infant brother, John Robert; sisters, Patricia "Sib" MacKay, Norma Matheson, Mary "Bunny" Hambly, and infant sister, Ann.
Cremation has taken place. His family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Archdeacon Peter Armstrong officiating assisted by Rev. Bill White. Interment will be in Mt.
