The death occurred at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Monday, September 28, 2009, of Henry Gordon MacWilliam of Charlottetown, in his 90th year.
Beloved husband of the late Margaret (Goodwin) MacWilliam.
Born in Salisbury, N.B., on April 9, 1920, son of the late Gordon and Annie (O’Blenis) MacWilliam, he is sadly missed by daughters, Janice (Kenny) Silver, Dartmouth, N.S., and Glenda (John) Szpecht, Calgary, Alta.; cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Silver, Vancouver, B.C.; Joyce Silver, Ottawa, Ont.; and Heather, Amanda, Andrew and Colin Szpecht, all of Calgary, Alta. He is survived by sister, Phyllis Dobson, Sackville, N.B.; and sister-in-law, Lois Goodwin Pepper, Halifax, N.S.; predeceased by sister, Eleanor Johnston; and special uncle to nieces and nephews and their families.
Following service with the 2nd Field Regiment RCA during the Second World War, Henry specialized in forced air heating systems design and engineering at Enamel & Heating Products, Ltd., Sackville, N.B. He moved to Charlottetown in 1950 and continued in the field for more than 25 years, first with Crockett & Storey Ltd., and later with DB & J Ltd. Later, he served as Executive Director of the P.E.I. Lung Association.
Henry believed strongly in giving back to the community and was a dedicated volunteer with many local organizations, most notably Trinity United Church, Charlottetown Jaycees, P.E.I. Lung Association, West Kent Home and School Association, P.E.I. Table Tennis Association and Maritime Masters Curling. In 1974 he became the eighth Islander to be named a Canadian Jaycee Senator. He was a keen bridge player and sports enthusiast, with a lifelong passion for baseball, golf, table tennis and curling.
Resting at the MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel from where the funeral will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 1 p.m. Interment in Sackville Cemetery, Sackville, N.B., at a later date.
Visiting hours Friday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
