It is with great sadness and gentle relief that the family of Garry Marcus announce his passing, after an exhausting battle with prostate cancer on Wednesday, August 3, 2011. Alfred Garry Marcus of Edmonton peacefully passed away at the age of 75 years.

Garry is lovingly survived by his wife Elizabeth, son Stuart (Jennifer) Marcus of Kamloops, BC, daughter Allyson (Jay) Benson of Calgary, granddaughter Leila, grandsons Warner and Mason, brother Bob (Betty-Lou) of Coquitlam, BC, sisters Patricia Hewitt (Archie) of Chatham and Nadine Murphy of Windsor.

Garry was predeceased by his father Albert, mother Myrtle and sister Marilyn (Don). Garry also leaves behind some wonderful friends and many nieces and nephews to mourn his loss.

Garry grew up in Ontario and moved west in 1955 and had a long career with CN in the Engineering group. Garry retired as the Manager Work Equipment in 1997 and continued in the railroad industry when he set up his own company and travelled throughout North America teaching railway practices and standards. Garry was very passionate about the railway and tried to ignite that in his students. Garry loved to make and sample wine, play guitar and was a great conversationalist with his family and friends and people he met along the way.

The family expresses their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at the Misericordia, Glenrose and Cross Cancer Institute for the excellent care and dignity given to Garry during his illness.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate Garry's life will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Howard & McBride Westlawn Chapel, 16310 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton followed by Inurnment and luncheon.
