It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verna Jean McGinnis (nee WILSON), our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, in the first minutes of September 28, 2009, in Moose Jaw Union Hospital, after a valiant
struggle with kidney and heart disease. She was 86. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Bernard Charles McGinnis, and six of her seven brothers: Gordon, Walter, Harry, Glen, Cliff and Arnott. She is survived by her younger brother, Wayne Wilson of Vancouver. She is also survived by and greatly missed by her children: Sandi, Dan, Shelley Grainger (John), Lesalie and Mark, all of British Columbia and Eric (Pat) of Ontario. Verna is also loved and missed by her seven grandchildren: Michelle, Lorne, Ben, Kyle, Cody, Jasmin (Laren) and Tyler (Jolen) and her six great-grandchildren: Tyson, Thomas, Riley, Oskar, Brandalyn, and Angus. Verna was born in Altamont, Manitoba to Eva(nee Lyle) and John Wilson. During the war years she worked in the Ninette Sanatorium. She married Bernard in 1946 and the young couple moved to Winnipeg. In 1966 the family moved to Pinawa, Manitoba. A few years after the passing of her husband, she moved with her youngest son to British Columbia. In 1994 she re-located to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to enrich and enjoy the lives of her granddaughter Michelle Winter and her three great-grandsons.She was a devoted daughter, mother, and grandmother, nursing her father in his final years and raising and nurturing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verna loved and supported amateur and professional arts. She was particularly fond of music, theatre and dance. Our deepest gratitude is extended to Dr. Tysdal for her exceptional care and attention to detail. The family also wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate care-givers of Extendicare Moose Jaw, Chez Nous, and the nurses and doctors of the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. A celebration of her life will be held this summer in Altamont, Manitoba. In the early summer of 2010, a notice of date, time and location will be published.
