Fraser Allan “Butch” MacPherson, 65, of New Glasgow, died peacefully at home on August 10, 2011, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late George and Jenesta (Brydle) MacPherson.
Butch was an auto mechanic by trade and worked at Dwyer Motors for several years before joining Michelin in 1971, retiring in 2004 after 33 years due to poor health.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and four wheeling with his sons and close friend, Brad Cameron. Gathering around a bonfire was one of his favorite past times, whether at the camp or in his own backyard; and listening to country music. His personal pride and joy was the restoration of his 1965 triumph Spitfire, which he completed with his own hands.
He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife, Coreen; sons, Michael, Alberta; Jason (Kim), Abercrombie; daughter, Lisa (Doug) Rice, New Brunswick; and beautiful granddaughters: Jocelyn, Melissa and Shaylee. He is also survived by brothers: Fred (Buddy) (Peggy), MacLellan’s Brook; Gerald (Jane), Churchville; Donald (Margie), New Glasgow; sisters: Laura Robertson, Antigonish; Elizabeth (Sue) Smith, Trenton; Marilyn Dunbar, Hamilton, Ontario; and sisters-in-law, Lauretta and Velma MacPherson, New Glasgow.
Besides his parents, Butch was predeceased by brothers, Wayne and Miller; and brothers-in-law: Fred Robertson, Brian Smith and Barry Dunbar.
Special thanks to Dr. Farrell, his staff, Dr. Forbes and especially the VON for their compassion and care, making Butch’s last wish to be at home, as comfortable as possible.
Cremation to take place. As per Butch’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 2 p.m. under the direction of Rev. Jim Schaffner. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Interment will be in the MacPherson’s Mills Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in Butch’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital or the VON.
