Oosterom, Maria Janna - 73, Truro, passed away peacefully October 2, 2009 at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with Parkinsons and dementia. Born June 14, 1936 in Leiderdorp, the Netherlands, she was a daughter of the late Leendert and Gysberta (Weynen) Baars. Maria came to Canada as a new bride in 1957 landing at Pier 21, Halifax and then making her home in Onslow, Colchester Co. She was a homemaker and with her husband, Bert they owned and operated Graceland Farms in Onslow retiring in 1992. They spent their winters in Florida where they made many dear friends until Maria’s failing health kept her home for the past five years. Maria loved to do needlepoint and has completed many beautiful pictures. She was also known for her delicious baking. Maria is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Bert; son, Harry (Ann), Bible Hill; daughters, Christina (Ralph) Workman, Helena (Brian) Bell, both of Calgary; daughter-in-law, Laura, Hilden; grandchildren, Steven, Jessica, Mitchell, Travis, Alexana; brother, Leo (Riet), the Netherlands; sister, Janna (Leen), the Netherlands. No visitation by request. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 5th at 2:00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Jay Ettinger officiating. Interment in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley.
