Maurice Maloney
MALONEY, MAURICE ROBERT - Maurice Robert Maloney, husband of the late Anne Marie (Leger) Maloney, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1933 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Alfred and Gladys (Goodine) Maloney. Besides his parents and wife, Anne Marie of 56 years, who passed away July 29, 2011, he was predeceased by brothers, Bernard Maloney and Vincent Maloney; sister, Eileen Surette; and son-in-law, Brian Lund. Maurice attended St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Grand Bay and was a choir member for over fifteen years. He was very creative and could often be found behind his old typewriter writing short stories or poetry. Maurice also loved music, singing, playing piano, gardening and photography. He had an outgoing personality and loved to try to “get a laugh” from someone. Family was very important to Maurice and his greatest joy in his later years was spending time with his grandchildren. Maurice is survived by his six children, Dan of Saint John, Jim (Kim), of Riverview, Kevin (Denise), of Quispamsis, Christine Sands (Paul), of Saint John, Rosanne Maloney, of Rothesay, and Jill Hayward (Les), of Saint John; sisters, Marguerite Davidson (Duncan), of Bains Corner, Mary Benoit (Clovis), of Saint John, Dorothy Swain, of Ottawa and Geraldine Donovan (Bill), of Rothesay; fourteen grandchildren, Jeffrey and Lee Maloney, Josh and Shauna Sands, Kayla, Brandon and Colin Maloney, Nicholas and Lindsey Maloney, Melissa, Ryan and Gina Hayward, Jack and Sarina Lund; one great-grandchild, Cohen King; nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Elaine Maloney.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424). By request there will be no visitations. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Matthew’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 10:00 am. Interment for Maurice and Anne Marie will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in memory of Maurice may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
