Bruce Dwight “Skip” Bigelow - 82, formerly of Blomidon, Kings County, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011. Born in Blomidon, he was a son of the late John William “Bill” and Mary (Newcombe) Bigelow. He owned and operated the Lucky Dollar Grocery Store, Canning and had been employed in the refrigeration department of Scotian Gold, Canning and at various times worked as caretaker at Blomidon Provincial Park, from where he retired. He was a former member of the Canning Volunteer Fire Department and the Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch No. 73, Canning. He enjoyed playing darts and cards, especially crib. He is survived by his wife, the former Arley MacBride; a daughter, Nancy (David) Acker, Kentville; two sons, Allison “Doc”, Kentville; Gerald “Jerry” (Julie), Ontario; a sister, Ona Spicer, Evergreen Home for Special Care; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Burdett and Burrill “Sam”. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011, Reverend Doctor Mark Parent and Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating, with burial in the Habitant Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.
