DOWNER, Benjamin Charles– Passed peacefully away at Brookfield Hospital on September 28, 2009, Benjamin Charles Downer age 88 years of Greenspond. Predeceased by his wife Mildred, parents Charles and Susanna Downer, brothers Jack, Daniel and Cecil, sisters, Maggie, Marjorie, Lena and Edith and son-in-law David Pike. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories two sons: Mac (Trixie) of Mount Pearl, Ronald (Daisy) of Greenspond, one daughter: Vera Pike of St. John’s, step-brother: Martin Meadus (Naomi) of New Perlican; step-sisters: Maud King of Badger's Quay, Beatrice Antle (Owen) of St. John's; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on Thursday, October 1 at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Greenspond with Rev. Shaun O'Connor officiating. Interment followed at the Interfaith Cemetery, Shambler's Cove, Greenspond. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Greenspond.
