PIKE, Launcelot Otto — Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with cancer, Launcelot (Launce) Otto Pike, 75. Predeceased by his grandson Timothy (2007). Leaves to mourn his wife of 52 years, June Pike (McGrory); sons Chris (Kathy), Keith (Valerie) and Hayward; grandchildren Adam and Tonia (Hayward), David and Greg (Keith) and Andrew, Ben and Zac (Chris), and great-granddaughter Abigail (Adam) and a large circle of friends and relatives. Launce was the oldest child of Hayward Wallace Pike and Lillian Marie Brazil. Launce was born in Forteau, Labrador in 1934, raised in Battle Harbour, and spent his youth on the coast of Labrador, forever etching it in his heart. He came to St. John’s to go to Bishop Feild school in 1950 where he met, and married in 1957 his dedicated and caring wife June. June and Launce moved back to Goose Bay in 1958, and their first child was born there. Returning to St. John’s in 1960, they built a family home that was visited and blessed by many friends and family over the years. Launce returned to Labrador many times, including with his son Hayward, and as captain of a boat he piloted, with the skills of a Master Mariner. Launce will be remembered for his love of the ocean, boats and the outdoors, his excellent wood-working and his kind-hearted nature. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd. Visitation on Saturday from 6–9 p.m. and Sunday from 10–12 noon, 2–4 p.m. and 6–9 p.m. Funeral Service on Monday from Caul’s Chapel, time to be announced. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
