Annie Regis Day, 203 Alder Point Rd., Bras d’Or passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born March 27, 1908, daughter of the late Patrick and Jessie (Coakley) Jessome, she was a lifelong resident of Bras d’Or.
‘Nana’ will always be remembered for her keen sense of humour, quick wit, love of music and dance and generous hospitality to all who visited her home.
She was predeceased by her husband of 76 years, Walter Stephen Day.
Regis ‘Nana’ is survived by 10 children, Theresa MacLean, Mildred (Jack) Winstanley, Urban (Pat), Joan (Billy) Nugent, Alvin (Mary Frances), Bernie (Norma), Ketha Fahey, Billy (Marcella), Miriam (Vic) Gouthro and Wanda (Alex) Rideout; 44 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren and 16 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nita Day, Dorothy Serroul, Betty Musgrave and Winnie Day; brother-in-law, Les Day and special family friend, Dennis Jessome.
Besides her husband, Walter, she was predeceased by her three sons, David Wayne, Reggie and Alexander; sons-in-law, Wilson MacLean, William Fahey and James Lavery Jr.; her sisters, Loretta (William) LeBlanc, Annie (Ben) Ross and brothers, Adrian (Alma), John (Ange), Everett (Elizabeth), Hilbert (Viola) and Patrick.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s parish, Bras d’Or or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of celebration of her life will be held Monday, Aug. 22, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Immediately following mass a reception honouring Nana’s life will be held at St. Joseph’s Hall, Bras d’Or.
