MCLEOD - William Oren Sept. 21, 1924 - Aug. 15, 2011. It is with deep regret we say goodbye to Bill McLeod. He passed suddenly early Monday morning surrounded by his family. His wife, Eleanor, of over 64 years, shares her sorrow with their family, Grant (Louise), Norma Grace (Doug) Scott, Fraser (Shari) and Cameron, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren , and many beloved nieces and nephews. Bill has 3 surviving sisters, Hazel Baldwin, Jean Lines and Nona Lucas. Born in Cabri, SK., schooled at Butte Valley, educated by life. Bill served in the armed forces out of Brandon MB. Bill and Eleanor farmed on the McLeod family farm from 1948 until 1987 when they moved from Riverbutte Stock Farm into Cabri and "retired". After retiring Bill worked for the Canadian Western Agribition and Sask. Crop Insurance. During his adult life he served on many boards and committees throughout the province, including but not limited to, Butte Valley School Board, Riverdene Rural Telephone Company, Cabri Canadian Legion, Cabri Hospital Board, Hospital Finance Committee, the Sask. Square Dance Institute, Sask. Simmental Association and the Canadian Western Agribition Board. In this youth, Bill loved to play ball and hockey. In later years he carried that love to watching hockey and ball. Bill LOVED people of all ages and walks of life. For many years he and his wife danced. They Square danced and Round danced all over the country. Many of their family vacations were at Square Dance Funstitutes. In 1969 he brought his first Simmental Purebred to Canada from Switzerland. That was the start of a lengthy involvement in exotic cattle breeds. He loved a good book, a good joke and a good story. He also loved playing cards, especially Bridge. If you couldn't play - he'd teach you if he could catch you! In later years he discovered Cowboy Poetry. He and Eleanor went to many venues to enjoy their favorite storytellers. Travel was one of his passions. Many hours were spent traveling to interesting places and visiting friends and family. Always a cowboy at heart, he loved to ride the hills. No matter where he went or what he was doing, he always came through it with more lifelong friends. This humble man always had time. His patient kindness endured him to everyone. He was proud of his cattle, farm and family. Not necessarily in that order! W.O. will be sadly missed but fondly remembered. His body was donated to the U of S Department of Anatomy for medical research.
