Phyllis Y. Scofield

SCOFIELD, Phyllis Y. – Daughter of Harold and Linda (nee Mifflin) Templeman, granddaughter of the Honorable Harold Templeman, the owner of Templeman Fisheries, and cousin of retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Arthur Mifflin, passed away August 14 at the age of 93. Born in Bonavista, Phyllis met the love of her life at Fort McAndrew in Argentia and, in 1945, married him in the United States. She was the wife of Roger H. Scofield, both of whom were recent residents at the First Colonial Inn in Virginia Beach and formerly of Kove Estates, Osteen, Florida.
Phyllis was pre-deceased by her sisters: Catherine and Vera and brother Lloyd. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Roger; sister Jeanne Miles, son Lon and his wife Judy; son Leland and his wife Nancy; grandson Jeff and his wife Krista; granddaughter Jennifer and her husband, Trevor Clark; granddaughter Katherine and four great-grandchildren, Roxanne and Sierra Clark and Mason and Mitchell Scofield.
After retiring in St. Johnsville, New York, as co-editor of the Enterprise and News, the area’s weekly newspaper, Phyllis and Roger moved to Florida where she spent over 30 of her retirement years enjoying tennis, fishing, shrimping, golf, singing in large and small choirs and many community social events. In 2007, she moved to Virginia Beach and enjoyed activities with the new friends she made while residing at the First Colonial Inn.
A celebration of her life will be held at Holloman-Brown Funeral Home at 1264 Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, 23454 on August 18th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of sending flowers, please make donations in her name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
