It is with saddened hearts that we the family of Florence Euphemia MacIntyre announce her passing on Aug. 21, 2011, at the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Mira Ferry, N.S., May 19, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Donald John and Christy (Lamond) MacIntyre.
Florence was a very talented lady and could put her hand to anything. An artist, designer, knitter quilter, weaver, teacher were just a few of her many talents. She taught school in Port Morien and West Louisbourg. For many years she worked in the advertising department at T. Eaton Co. in Sydney. In the early sixties she started work in the Interpretation Department at the Fortress of Louisbourg and went on to become curator of textiles and costumes. Her work can still be seen today at the Fortress. Her knowledge of the Mira, the Scottish settlers and Union Presbyterian Church were vast.
She will be greatly missed by the many organizations of which she was a member including the Piecemakers Quilter’s group, Life member of the Fortress of Louisbourg Volunteer Association, Mira Gaelic Choir, and the Mira Ferry Community Fair Committee.
Florence was a proud and faithful member of Union Presbyterian Church, an adherent supporter of First United Church, Louisbourg and a Life member of MacMillian Unit UCW.
Florence is survived by one sister, Annie Stacey, Williston House, Sydney; special nephews, Duncan (Janette) Beaver, Darryl (Geraldine) Beaver, niece, Charlene (Ron) Anderson and their families and many other nieces and nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Angus, Donald Hughie, John L., Alex and Lauchie and five sisters, Effie, Katie, Sadie, Mary and Effie Anne.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Union Presbyterian Church, Mira Ferry, where services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Richardson officiating. Interment will be held at Loch End Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Union Presbyterian Church, First United Church, Louisbourg, or Loch End Cemetery.
