Sharon Lizee
LIZEE: After a long illness, Sharon (Smith) Lizée of Swift Current, Sask., formerly of Medicine Lake, MT. USA, came home to her Lord on Monday, August 15, 2011 in the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, Sask., Canada, with her loving husband Lavern and step daughter Laura-Jean at her side. A funeral service will be held at Grace United Church in Swift Current, SK on Friday Aug. 19, at 2 pm, with Rev. Bonita Chad officiating. There will also be a service in Medicine Lake at the United Church of Christ on Monday Aug. 22, at 2 pm, with Rev. Tim Hutslar officiating. Interment will be in the family plot, Medicine Lake Cemetery.
Sharon was born on September 24, 1939 in Plentywood, MT. Her parents were Dick and Bessie Smith of Medicine Lake. She lived in Medicine Lake during the school year and on the farm west of Reserve, MT. during the summer. Sharon was a kind, loving person. She would do anything for her friends, family, and those in need. In addition to being loved by her family, students, and co-workers, with her infectious smile and cheerful attitude, she always had time to visit the sick and those confined to their home or care facilities. Clearly, Sharon will be missed.
She attended grade school through high school graduating in 1958. Sharon was involved in Pep Club, FHA, band, church, choir, Pilgrim Fellowship and Rainbow Girls during her high school years. Her dream, which she achieved, was to become and elementary school teacher. She attended Montana State College at Bozeman for one year, transferred to Northern Montana College at Havre, received her teaching certificate in 1961 and taught one year in Chester, Mt . She married Keith McKibben December 20, 1961, and moved to Canada in 1962. She taught elementary education in Waldeck, Moose Jaw and Swift Current, SK. In 1968 they adopted their first daughter, Sherri, and in 1972, adopted their second daughter, Shauna. This marriage ended in 1985.
Sharon was a member of Grace United Church in Swift Current, taking part in the church service, education, and church choir. Also during this period, she was active in the Order of the Eastern Star as a Worthy Matron in 1974, again in 2000 and in 2001 she became a District Deputy Grand Matron. In 1984-86 she returned to Havre, MT. to attend summer classes and graduated from Northern Montana College with a BS in Elementary Education.
On March 29, 1986 she married Lavern Lizée of Swift Current. She was teaching elementary education in Swift Current and Lavern operated a business south of town. They have a large combined family and several grandchildren. They spent their summers at their lake home on Lac LaRonge, SK. fishing, hosting relatives and friends. She retired from teaching in 1995 and in 1997 they opened Family Billiards in Swift Current and continued to spend their summers at Lac LaRonge.
Sharon was predeceased in death by her parents, her brother, Harry Smith, and sisters, Marguerite Jack and Mary Evans. Survivors include her husband, Lavern, daughters: Sherri McKibben of Verwood, SK, Canada and Shauna (Rodi) Wiest of Vauxhall, AB Canada, grandson: Daniel Wiest, and granddaughters: Brooke, Dharma, McKenzie Wiest, brothers: Bill (Gayle) Grothaus of Billings and Rick (Joy) Smith of Monument, CO and sisters: Pat (Gary) Norbo of Naples, FL and Kay (Brian) Brinkman of Dagmar, MT. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sharon was predeceased in death by a stepson, Laurent Paul Lizée.
Her surviving stepsons are: Laurier Lizée, Lavern jr. (Lise) Lizée.
Her surviving stepdaughters are: Nancy(Stuart) Gording, Laurianne Lizée, Lauretta (Hildor) Ens, Lauren Lizée, Laura-Jean Lizée and Laureen Wood. She is also surveved by her sister-in-law Vivian (George) Coghill.
