LYONS, Shirley — 69, of Salmon Cove, Newfoundland, passed away after a courageous battle of cancer at the Health Science Center, St. John's, Newfoundland, on Friday, August 12, 2011. She leaves to mourn her loving family, best friend and partner of 21 years, Gerard "Gerry" Murphy; children, Allan Wareham, Matthew (Debbie) Wareham, Peggy (Randy), Leah (Darren), Michelle (Frank), Susan (James) and Shawn Murphy; sister, Marion Pye; grandchildren, Wendy, Luke, Matthew, Bradley, Josh, Jake, Grant, Holly, Rod, Mackenzie, Jessie, Jordan, Courtney and Robert; four great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. Shirley was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Clara Ormston and granddaughter, Katelynne Fisher. Shirley took great pride in “Shirley's Guest Home for Seniors.” Her home was their home, as she lovingly cared for each one of them as if they were her own parents. As a mother of seven children, she had many good times and many trying times. However, her children have always had the highest respect and admiration for her. As all seven of her children are parents now themselves, of her very special grandchildren, they can all appreciate how difficult a job it was. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being an amazing Mom. As Gerry's partner, Shirley was devoted to their life together. They shared many happy times and some sad times. To quote her favorite quote for Gerry “To the world, you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.” Cremation has taken place. The family received relatives and friends at Slades Funeral Home, Powell Dr, Carbonear, Newfoundland, between 7-9:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 14. Following the visitation in Carbonear, Shirley’s ashes were sent to Windsor, Nova Scotia. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. in Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service Chapel, 419 Albert St., Windsor, Rev. Jeffrey White officiating. Private family burial followed in the Centre Falmouth Cemetery with a reception following at the home of Leah and Darren.
