Charles Verner LeVatte, Roselle Street, Sydney River, passed away Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney River on January 17, 1923, he was the son of the late H.C.V and Margaret (Carmichael) LeVatte.
Charles was a member of United Protestant Church of Sydney River. For many years, he worked with his brothers in the family business, LeVatte Construction. In 1979, along with his sons, he started Riverside Developments Ltd. He was a former member of the Riverview Y’s Mens Club and the Seaview Curling Club.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth (MacRae); sons, Gordon, Coxheath; Kendall (Pamela) and Kramer (Lynn), Sydney River; sisters, Catherine MacIntosh and Betty Dedrick, Sydney; grandchildren, Steven, Jennifer, Mary, Elizabeth, Charles and Daniel.
Charles was predeceased by brothers, Daniel, Harry and William.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at United Protestant Church of Sydney River on Friday 2 p.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, United Protestant Church of Sydney River or a charity of your choice.
