A new journey begins for Edward Flynn, who passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, after a battle with cancer, leaving with beautiful memories the love of his life, his wife and best friend, Juanita Flynn.
Born in Placentia, Nfld., on Jan. 26, 1944, he was the son of the late James and Cecilia (Cheeseman) Flynn. He was a retired cook with the Marine Atlantic vessels travelling between North Sydney and Newfoundland, and during that time, and with open arms he volunteered to sail aboard a Marine Atlantic Vessel which brought supplies to the Persian Gulf War. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney and the Father William B. Kiely Council of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a caring, kind and loving husband, father and friend who had and infectious sense of humour. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita (Burke) Flynn; his sons, Jerry (Nicole), Nicholas (Janet), James (Heather), Troy (Megan) and Christopher (Krista); his daughters Faith (Craig) and Lynette (Curtis), 11 grandchildren Jordan, Ethan, Ryan, Brandon, Keagan, Nicholas, Damon, Noah, Jaxon, Jordyn and Reese, his sisters Dorothy Neuens, Norfork, Virginia, Hilda Peterson, Lindsay, Ont., Blanche (Frederick) Dacosta, Scarborough, Ont. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law and his best companion, Bandit.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, James Jr., Joseph, Cyril and sister, Mary.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Church, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
