It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary MacLean, 80, of Patrick Street, Scotchtown, on Aug. 24, 2011, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Boston, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mae (MacKinnon) MacQuarrie.
In earlier years she was employed at Sears in New Waterford.
Mary was a member of the former St. Michael parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard.
She was also a longtime member of the ladies auxiliary for the Knights of Columbus and at one time, treasurer with the Boy Scouts of Canada.
Mary enjoyed playing cards and bingo but her greatest passion was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are daughters, Francine (Doug) Gibson, Calgary, Morene Chicarella, New Waterford, Alana (Ray) Backer, Calgary; sons, Michael (Rosie), Edmond, Oklahoma, Ron (Kim), Shearwater, N.S., Danny (Helene de Beer), Glenn, both of Calgary; brother, Tom (Yvonne) MacQuarrie, Winnipeg; sisters, Margaret (Jim) Egan, Carver, Mass., Anna (Gerry) O’Quinn, Timberlea, Kaye, Willena and Sadie, all of New Waterford; grandchildren, Mike, Holly, Danielle, Michelle, Nicole, Coady, Maegan, Joshua, Sophie, Ben, Jacob and Mary.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Cecil, brothers, John, Don, Greg and Eddie, sister, Bernice Brown.
Visitation will be held today (Friday), Aug. 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Mary will take place Saturday, Aug. 27 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard’s parish hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.
Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

The Knights of Columbus will assemble for a prayer service on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
We would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Lange and the nursing staff of New Waterford hospital for their care, support and compassion shown toward Mary and her family during this difficult time.
