Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: July 18th, 2011

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allister J. Gillis on July 18, 2011 at his residence in Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the loving son of the late Ronald and Catherine (Spencer) Gillis.
Allister worked for a time with Sony and the lumber industry in Ontario. In 1978, he returned home to help his mom and to work in the construction field in N.S. Recently he enjoyed working at the oil refineries in Alberta.
His favourite pastimes were hunting, fishing, darts and the odd game of tarabish. He also enjoyed tinkering around old cars with his old friend and neighbour, Thomas Yates (Tabby).
Allister enjoyed the simple things in life, which he did well. Always a smile instead of a frown. Always a hand when one was down. He was an extremely true, thoughtful, and kind gentleman who constantly offered his help to anyone in need. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He will be forever missed by his brothers, Clement (Alice), Glace Bay, Sheldon (Florence), Toronto; sisters, Bernice (Leo) MacDonald, Antigonish, Jacqueline (late James) MacDonald, Glace Bay; many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
Besides his parents, Allister was predeceased by a brother, Rannie, in infancy.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Family flowers only, donations to charity of your choice.
