JOHN TKACHUK

JOHN TKACHUK passed away peacefully on August 25, 2011 in Moose Jaw, one day shy of his 86th birthday. John was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on August 26, 1925. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII and served as a radar 3 on the HMCS Uganda. He married Delaine Houghton in 1948 and they spent 61 years of devoted life together. Most of their married life was spent in Saskatchewan. He spent the majority of his working career on the gas side of SaskPower. John was an active member within the community and was involved with the Moose Jaw Canucks and various minor hockey leagues. John committed 58 years of his life to Alcoholics Anonymous and was a devoted sponsor and an inspirational mentor to many people through the AA program. He was also very committed to the Minto United Church family. His passion for helping others was admirable. His belief was that no one was beyond help and that everyone was worth time and effort. He was also a supportive and non-judgmental friend to many who loved and admired him. John was a very proud Father of four children and a wonderful, loving Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. John was predeceased by his younger brother Mike Tkachuk, his loving wife, Del and eldest daughter Barbara Glen. He is survived by his children: David Tkachuk, Bev (Brent) Skoreyko, Jamie (Cheryl) Tkachuk; grandchildren: Delaine (Barry) Chamberlain, Jason Glen, Jeffery (Debra) Glen, Allanna (Brad) Sukenik, Brent (Sarah) Tkachuk, Christina (Dusty) Johnson and Dalton Tkachuk and Kennedy Tkachuk; great-grandchildren: Brin, Brady, Logan, Jacob, Maria, Kolton, Carson, Joshua and Daycie. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 – 7th Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. For those so wishing, memorials may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 917 Albert Street, Regina, S4R 2P6 or to the Angus Campbell Centre, Box 118, Moose Jaw, S6H 4N7.
