HILTON, Russell James – 88, of Yarmouth, passed into the hands of God on August 23, 2011, in Villa St. Joseph du-Lac. Born December 22, 1922 in South Ohio, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of the late Russell and Jennie (Kirkland) Hilton. Russell was a veteran of the Second World War, enlisting in the Signal Corps. in 1939. He served in the Royal Canadian Atlantic Command Security Intelligence section and saw action in both Africa and Italy. After the war, he was employed by Yarmouth Fruit Company as a salesman. Following that, he and his first wife, Verlie, were employed by the Oland family of Halifax, until leaving for the United States in 1951, where he worked until his retirement. Russ loved his family, pets and working in his rose garden. Cribbage and photography were also among his hobbies. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church. He is survived by daughter, Christine (Dudley), South Ohio; granddaughter, Chér (Mike) Nickerson, Yarmouth; great-granddaughter, Nastasha, Kentville. He was predeceased by first wife, Verlie; second wife, Kay; brothers, Art and Clarence; sister, Helen. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Yarmouth. A memorial service was held Friday, August 26 at 11 a.m. from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Father Doug Chard officiated. Interment followed in Hillside Cemetery. Family flowers only, please.
