At the Prince County Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, of Alvin L. Hardy, of Freeland, and Lady Slipper Villa, O’Leary, in his 91st year. Beloved husband of P. Mae Hardy and dear father of Myrna (Wayne), Summerside; Martha, Nanaimo, B.C.; Lloyd (Louise), Freeland; Leigh (Mary), Toronto Ont.; and Lyndon (Georgina), Foxley River. Loving grandfather of Paul and David (Lyanna) Phillips; Derek (Maureen) and Jeffery (Pam) Johnstone; Douglas (Monique), John (Martine), and Philip (Wendy) Hardy; Jill, Ben and Kate Hardy; and Grant, Alyssa and Laura Hardy. Great-grandfather of nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother-in-law Layton Millar and sister-in-law Daisy Phillips, both of the Lady Slipper Villa. Predeceased by his parents, George and Laura (Bryan) Hardy; brothers and sisters, Major (May), Hazel (Edgar) Henderson, Gladys (Roland) Williams, Lila, and William; mother- and father-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Joshua S. Millar; brothers- and sisters-in-law Marguerite Maynard, Sterling, Ivan, Alton, Verna Linkletter, Glenford, Roy and Gordon; and by grandson Kevin Johnstone. Resting at the Ferguson’s Tyne Valley Funeral Chapel until Sunday, then to Bideford-Conway United Church for funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in the Freeland United Church Cemetery. Visitation on Saturday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Brethern of Alexander Lodge #5, Port Hill, will hold a Masonic Service, Saturday at 9 p.m. If so desired, donations may be made to the Freeland United Church Cemetery, Bideford-Conway United Church, or charity of your choice.
