It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kevin Hanrahan on Saturday, August 27, 2011 in Halifax.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Gerald and Angela (O’Neill) Hanrahan.
Kevin was a member of Our Lady of Fatima parish. Kevin was a graduate of Sydney Academy, Dalhousie University and St. Mary’s University. A dedicated teacher Kevin worked for many years in Ontario and returned to Cape Breton to teach with the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board up to the present time. He was well respected by staff and students at the Sydney Adult Education Centre. Kevin loved to travel with his sons, especially to Ireland from where he just returned and also to New York to see the New York Yankees. Kevin was also a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan. Kevin very much enjoyed the years of coaching his boys in sports and going to watch their games. An avid horseman he participated as owner, trainer and driver. He was a best friend to his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by his sons, Breton and Reilly, at home; sisters, Geraldine (Frank Hawley) Hanrahan, Linda (Lorne) MacKinnon and Judy Hanrahan; brothers, Shaun, Barry, and Eddy (Mary Ann). Also survived by his nieces and nephews.
Kevin was predeceased by brothers, Robert and Gary. Visitation for Kevin will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31 in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass to celebrate Kevin’s life will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 1st in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Rev. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
