Sybil MacLean

Sybil Calena MacLean, 71, of River Road, Churchville, Pictou Co., passed away in the Halifax Infirmary Hospital, on Monday, August 29, 2011.
Born in New Glasgow, she was the only child and loving daughter of the late Calder and Jean (Carmichael) Reid.
Sybil lived most of her adult life in Hamilton, Ont., moving back home to Pictou County in 1994.
Sybil was known for her love of life and helping others through her many volunteer activities over the years. She hosted many Christmas Open Houses in her home, with proceeds going to the local food bank, she enjoyed crafting original jewellery, and donating any proceeds from the sale of her craft to the IWK Children’s Hospital Foundation. She also volunteered her time with the Hospital Auxiliary, at the Aberdeen Hospital, working in the gift shop. Sybil was also known for her love of animals.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Daniel.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie, Hamilton, Ont.; and her son, Aron (Janet), also of Hamilton; three granddaughters: Chrystal, Sarah and Arian MacLean, many very close cousins and lifelong friends.
Cremation has taken place.
By Sybil’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1st, from Springville Presbyterian Church, Springville, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Susan Smith presiding assisted by Rev. Don Sheppard. Burial to take place in the MacLean Cemetery, Hopewell. Reception to follow in the church hall.
Donations in Sybil’s memory can be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation.
The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. MacLean and nursing staff of the CCU, 6.4, Halifax Infirmary, for their wonderful care and compassion during Sybil’s brief illness.
