Maria Martenyi
MARTENYI, MARIA - Maria was born in Antwerpen, Belgium on Friday the 13th of December, 1940. She went to school in St. Nicholas and Lokeren. In 1959 she married her husband Peter and they had a beautiful and loving daughter Ingrid. In 1964, the family immigrated to Canada. For a year they lived in Sherbrooke, Que. and then they settled in Moncton in 1965 where she lived and worked until her death on the 1st of September, 2011.
She was a caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother with an acute sense of community. She worked endlessly for her charitable causes and especially put all her heart as a volunteer for the MS Society. Maria's love for a simple life, her family, friends, neighbors, her hobbies (knitting, gardening), and her cats, were the strength we all lived by. She bore her many illnesses with grace and courage showing an example of hope and courage to all of us. In her final days, she expressed her great thanks and gratitude toward her many physicians, staff of The Moncton City, Dr. George L. Dumont and of the Extra Mural Hospitals who all took kind and loving care of her. Maria and her love will be greatly missed by her husband Peter and daughter Ingrid (Ron Whittaker). She will always be loved and remembered by her 2 granddaughters Christine and Courtney, special friends Wendy Cail and Louise LeBlanc. She is survived by her brother Eugene Klinchhaemers and his wife Lea, their daughter Sabine and granddaughter Marie, all living in Belgium. She is also survived by her 97 year old aunt, Tante Irene, her daughter Monique Hilgert (Raoul) and their 4 children Patrick, Johan, Luc and Raphael. She is also bereaved by her extended family: Donald McPhee and his family, members of the Whittaker Family. Faithful servant of God, rest in Peace in the light of the eternal life. Thank you for your life and your love. We love you and will miss you always.
